Abstract

The historical context of 20th-century Spain had a profound influence on the national literary scene, owing to the social and cultural problems and political changes the country underwent over several decades. Authors born and raised within this socio-political context were committed to reflecting this reality in their respective novels, thereby preserving the historical memory and collective experiences of the people. The following article examines the thematic connections between these authors, using the historical context as a starting point to analyse the novels published from the Generation of ’98 through to the post-war generation. Consequently, the aim of this study is to demonstrate how the historical context influences the novels and how they reflect similar concerns characteristic of their era, employing a thematic intertextual approach.
