Latin American literature in general and fantasy literature in particular, offers a new vision of the world thanks to the authors' awareness of how they approach reality from an imaginary perspective. This article aims to analyze, from a semiotic perspective, the short story "House Taken Over" by the Argentinian writer Julio Cortázar. The demonstration consists of progressively identifying semantic categories, observing their linear development, which allows us to identify the text's isotopy, constructed through the recurrence of semantic features that ensure the coherence of the discourse. By reconstructing these meanings, it is possible to unveil the implicit and profound meaning of the narrative. The objective of this article is to discover the true message of the story that the author intended in creating his work. This interpretive process allows us to understand that the story not only narrates a fantastic phenomenon but can also allude to social realities of that era.
