The issue of heritage has attracted considerable attention from numerous researchers of diverse cultural and ideological orientations. Consequently, many foundational attempts have emerged to interpret and study heritage. Among the most significant of these projects is Ahmed Amin’s trilogy: Fajr al-Islam (The Dawn of Islam), Duha al-Islam (The Forenoon of Islam), and Zuhr al-Islam (The Zenith of Islam). This project stands out for its distinctive qualities, as readers are often struck by the richness of its scholarly material, the depth of its thought, and the breadth of its analysis. Accordingly, this study is entitled “Ahmed Amin and the Reading of Islamic Heritage and Its Impact on Contemporary Intellectual Projects: The Trilogy as a Model.”
The research addresses the following questions: How did the problematics of reading heritage emerge? What are the principal structural pathways that shaped Ahmed Amin’s trilogy? What influence did Ahmed Amin’s trilogy exert on contemporary intellectual projects?
This study aims to identify the major structural trajectories that constituted the foundations of the historical reading of heritage in Ahmed Amin’s trilogy. Among the most important of these are comprehensiveness, historicity, and contextualization. The study also seeks to demonstrate the trilogy’s impact on contemporary intellectual projects concerned with the interpretation and study of heritage.
Methodology: The study employs the analytical method to examine and clarify Ahmed Amin’s ideas, as well as the comparative method to reveal patterns of influence and interaction between Ahmed Amin’s thought and that of subsequent thinkers.
