Western Linguistics and Its Role in Shaping Arab Linguistic Culture: A Study of Structural Linguistics

Abstract

This research paper examines the influence of Western linguistics on the formation of Arab linguistic culture, focusing on structural linguistics—both descriptive and transformational-generative linguistics—as a model of analysis. It begins by reviewing the introductory writings that contributed to presenting linguistics to the Arab reader, and then highlights the contributions of Arab linguists in translating and applying Western linguistic approaches through in-depth studies of the Arabic language. Finally, the paper focuses on the distinctive characteristics of these linguistic schools.
