This article aims to analyze the concept of mindfulness and its importance in improving mental health through a review of contemporary psychological literature addressing the relationship between present-moment awareness and psychological well-being. Over recent decades, mindfulness has received increasing attention in the fields of positive psychology, psychotherapy, and public health due to its demonstrated role in reducing anxiety and depression, improving emotion regulation, and enhancing psychological resilience.
The literature indicates that mindfulness is not merely a technique for meditation or relaxation; rather, it represents a cognitive and emotional approach that enables individuals to intentionally direct their attention to the present moment while accepting internal and external experiences without preconceived judgments. Mindfulness has also been associated with a range of positive mental health indicators, including improved quality of life, greater self-satisfaction, and enhanced psychological and social adjustment.
This article adopts a descriptive-analytical approach based on a review of scientific literature and recent studies in the fields of mindfulness and mental health, with a particular emphasis on analyzing the mechanisms through which mindfulness contributes to psychological well-being and examining its principal applications in educational, therapeutic, and professional contexts.
The findings suggest that mindfulness constitutes an important psychological resource that can be utilized to promote mental health and prevent emotional disorders, provided that it is incorporated into evidence-based training and therapeutic programs and adapted to the cultural and social characteristics of different communities.
