Abstract

Photochemistry is the study of chemical processes initiated or influenced by light. The absorption of photons can promote molecules to electronically excited states, enabling reactions that may not occur under ordinary thermal conditions. Photochemical principles are increasingly important in modern technology, with applications in photocatalysis, solar energy conversion, photopolymerization, medicine, sensors, environmental remediation, imaging, and advanced manufacturing. The efficiency and selectivity of photochemical processes depend on factors such as wavelength, light intensity, molecular structure, excited-state lifetimes, reaction pathways, catalysts, and energy-transfer mechanisms. This paper examines nine major dimensions of photochemistry and its applications in modern technology, including fundamental principles, photochemical reactions, photocatalysis, solar technologies, medicine, sensors, materials processing, environmental applications, and future technological developments.
