Abstract

Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib Al-Farahidi is considered an important link in the chain of religious transmission among the Ibadi jurists. Those who examine what Abu Ghanem Al-Khorasani recorded in his major compendium of jurisprudential opinions for the students of Imam Abu Ubaidah Muslim bin Abu Karima will find that Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib was not merely a transmitter of jurisprudence and hadith, but rather had independent opinions based on evidence and foundational principles. In order to highlight Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib's methodology in deriving jurisprudential branches, this study came to address the question: What is Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib's methodology in his jurisprudential ijtihads as gathered by Abu Ghanem Al-Khorasani in the Al-Mudawwana Al-Kubra? According to a research plan that included two main sections and a preliminary section, the preliminary section was dedicated to a brief biography of Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib and an introduction to the book "Al-Mudawwana Al-Kubra." The first main section of the study addressed the principles of reasoning according to Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib, concluding with a second and final section dedicated to presenting Imam Al-Rabi' bin Habib's methodology in deriving jurisprudential rulings based on principles and rules.
